Mark Fenton Visit to C-U

On April 8th and 9th, the C-U Safe Routes to School Project, the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the U of I, the City of Urbana, Provena Covenant Medical Center and the MTD hosted several special events featuring one of the preeminent experts in the U.S.A. on active living - Mark Fenton.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mark led a Walkable Community/Safe Routes to School Workshop at the Illini Union.  This workshop also included a walkabout in the area around the Union.  This workshop was attended by key officials as well as planning, public works, health and transportation professionals.  The workshop focused on design and engineering of more walkable/bikable communities and how to achieve such a community.

Mr. Fenton is a health representative with the Partnership for a Walkable America, and the host of the PBS series America's Walking. Mr. Fenton is a well known author and an existing speaker and we were thrilled to have him come to Champaign-Urbana.

Community Legislative Breakfast

Our goal is to make our community a much safer, healthier, environmentally friendly place for our children and our future.  We thank Mark for coming to our community and giving us the tools to make this a reality!

On the morning of April 9th, Mark spoke with community leaders to give them real “next step” recommendations on how we can make Champaign-Urbana a more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly and active community.  This breakfast was attended by local state and city officials, school board members, and professionals.
